This isn't a story-based series and even "mainline" entries have weird divergent mechanics, so for the purpose of rating the games it's a super arbitrary thing if you're really looking to discern quality of gameplay.ĭeclaring handheld multiplayer games to be "irrelevant" seems like seeping some bias into it, imo. I dunno, letting "the man" decide what's mainline is pretty boring.

I assure you I have no portable bias whatsoever, as I actually prefer handhelds. I say DS isn't "mainline" because it's a fact (the main series of MP games consists of 1-10 and Super, blame Nintendo for choosing to go that route), there's no derogatory connotation to it whatsoever. No, that's you projecting your assumptions onto my words. It was also a deliberate choice to make the poll more efficient. It just means it doesn't belong to the main series of Mario Party games. It really isn't arbitrary at all in this case. I myself prefer DS to 5 and 7 but I specifically set out to eliminate the handheld games from the conversation. I made the thread based on the premise of only including the mainline games deliberately to make the poll easier and to make it more relevant for future users since unlike the entries in the main series the portable entries aren't exactly practical to consider going forward because they're multiplayer centric nature means they require 1 individual system per player which makes them mostly irrelevant past their respective gens due to being cumbersome. I don't decide which games are part of the main series and which aren't.Īlso, not that it matters here, but being part of the main series has nothing to do with being similar/different or not, Resident Evil 4/7 and God of War "reboot" were both big departures for their series and remain a part of the main series where as Revelations and Ascencion really didn't differ that much from their series' tenets at the time of release and yet they're still considered side games. If someone modded out the rotate control stick minigames from 1 I'd be fine playing that, at least. I wouldn't play any of the other ones even casually. The minigame selection is the worst of the GC era, too, but still overall decent. OK? I think the boards are good but the Capsule system (the prototype of the Orb system in 6 and 7) is not polished at all you have no control over what Capsules you get, you can't throw them behind you, and you can even trigger your own traps. The minigames are honestly really good, too.ĥ is. I wish that some characters (like Bowser) weren't so OP when it came to their special die, though. Super is kinda basic but I think it overall accomplishes what it sets out to do. It at least copied the Orb system from 6 wholesale so the strategy element is still there.ĭS is extremely underrated and should honestly replace 5 in this poll.Ĥ has terrible boards (like, it's a legitimate contender for worst in the entire series) and a bad gimmick with the Mega/Mini Mushrooms, but at least the minigame selection is really good. It has some of the best minigames (and a large number of them, so there's always variety), great boards, the day/night gimmick, and the expanded Orb system carried over from 5 that allows for tons of strategy.ģ has the best boards of the N64 games and the best of the standard items across all the games, although I think 2 edges out in terms of minigame quality.ħ is still good, but the boards are worse than in 6 and it's not really innovative.
6 > 3 > 2 >= 7 > DS > 4 > Super > 5 > all the restĦ basically does everything right.
